Unlike an attached ADU, which is connected to the main house, a detached ADU is a completely independent unit with its own entrance, kitchen, bathroom, and common areas.
Detached ADUs can be new or existing structures, such as a guest house, tiny house or even a garage conversion.
ADU Attached
An attached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a second dwelling that is attached to an existing single-family home. Attached ADUs are typically smaller than main homes and may be located in the basement, above the garage, or as an addition to the main home.
Attached ADUs may have a shared entrance with the main house or a separate entrance. They may also have their own kitchen, bathroom and common areas, or they may share some of these amenities with the main house.
ADU Interior upper level
Interior upper level ADUs are an excellent way to add additional living space to your home without taking up too much floor space. They can be built over an existing garage, an addition or even a part of your main home.
Interior upper level ADUs are typically smaller than detached ADUs, but can still offer plenty of space and convenience. They often include a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. Some may even have room for a small balcony or patio.
